The last few years have seen a number of nordic ski manufacturers release skis with a new way to get grip: skins. Similar to the climbing skins utilized by backcountry alpine skiers, these skis are designed to offer
copious amounts of grip without sacrificing glide. They are particularly effective in wet and icy conditions, where klister would normally be required to achieve sufficient grip. But, they also work incredibly well in other conditions.
Still not sure skin skis are for you? No problem, come on in to Skookum Cycle & Ski in Salmon Arm and demo a pair. We have the Rossignol R-Skin’s and the Salomon Equipe RC Skin’s in a variety of lengths to help you decide for yourself.
So, to skin or not to skin?
